- Central event aimed at celebration of the Universal Children’s Day will take place on 18 November 2016 in our office in Zagreb (premises of ‟Little House of Children's Rights“)

On this occasion, the World Day of Prevention of Violence Against Children and the European Day on the Protecting of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse will also be marked.
We encouraged secondary school students of School of Applied Arts in Rijeka to create illustrations regarding the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which will be used to create 2017 Calendar of the Ombudsman for Children entitled “I know and I respect children’s rights”. Opening of an exhibition of their art works will take place on 18 November 2016 in our office in Zagreb.

Many different participants/stakeholders are invited to participate in this event, as well as many children, including members of our Network of Young Advisors (NYA).

- Our work with Network of Young Advisors (NYA) in 2015 was marked by participation in an European project lead by European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC), through their child/young people participatory project supported by ENOC members (European Network of Young Advisors – ENYA).

Ombudsman for Children of the Republic of Croatia participated in this project with 20 children - members of our Network of Young Advisors (NYA), covering the issue of psychological bullying, with emphasis on social isolation. Children have been interactive with different professionals including the media sector, resulting in producing a 5 minute video, showing the process of reflection of children starting with the gain of information and exchange of views to their actual participation in the national media. All 5 minute video shots were edited in a final video.
In 2016 our Network created a strategy NYA Peer Violence Prevention Strategy, titled Let us break the silence that hurts which was presented to the public by members of the network and the Ombudsman for Children on 4 October 2016. Young advisers presented the strategy to their peers as well, in several occasions organized in our offices in Zagreb, Osijek and Split. The Strategy (infographic) is available on the link:
http://www.dijete.hr/websites/dijete.hr/Dokumenti/MMS%20strategija%20protiv%20vrsnjackog%20nasilja.pdf (Croatian version)
http://www.dijete.hr/websites/dijete.hr/Dokumenti/NYA_PEER%20VIOLENCE%20PREVENTION%20STRATEGY.pdf (English version)

Organization name National Family Safety Program
Event Country Saudi Arabia
Event Region Asia
Event Location Details 1- Online on Twitter @NFSP1 (14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 November), hashtag #لا_تمدها
2- Red Sea Mall, Jeddah city (17, 18, and 19 November)
3- Some other cities are going to do similar public awareness campaigns in public areas like malls. These cities are Taif, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, Riyadh, and Dammam.
Date(s) 14 November, 15 November, 16 November, 17 November, 18 November, 19 November
Description of Activities The campaign is titled "La Tmodaha" which is a short version of a local idiom that literally means "do not extend your hand", and its real meaning is best translated as "do not hit or spank". The theme is corporal punishment, and this is the first campaign that targets this issue directly in Saudi Arabia up to our knowledge.

The campaign on twitter started on 14 November with a shocking, clear, and emotional awareness video that features multiple public figures in the local social media in addition to known experts in the field of pediatrics and psychiatry. The video is and will be pushed through other social media channels (YouTube and what's app) to reach the maximum possible audience.

The video is immediately followed with tweets to give more details about corporal punishment, which is the common method used to correct behavior in our culture. In the next 4 days of the online campaign, the tweets focus on the concept of positive discipline, alternative ways to correct children's behavior, and on age appropriate discipline based on expected normal behavior. The content of these tweets was extracted from the extensive literature available which was reviewed, translated, summarized, and adopted by the campaign team.

On November 17th, the Red Sea Mall campaign starts. It continues for 3 days. Its purpose is to educate the public regarding the same topics for the online campaign and to measure their response to our education. The education is delivered by volunteers as trained medical students and pediatric residents, supervised by child abuse pediatricians and developmental pediatrician. Printed brochures will be provided. There is also a consultation corner run by a consultant\expert in the field of child behavior which provides brief professional consultation for advanced cases that need more assistance.
There will be a kids corner with activities focusing on children's rights and teaching them about the Saudi child helpline.
Special gift will be given to participating families, which is a "reward char"t adopted to common activities in Arabia and in Arabic language. The idea is to teach parents to focus on their child's good behaviors and reward them.
Later this November, Aman Youth groups will implement the same mall campaign idea in other cities in Saudi Arabia (Taif, Al-Madinah Al-Munawara, Riyadh and Dammam).
The future plan after the campaign is to do a workshop for parents who wants learn more about children development and behavior and wants to learn about alternatives to corporal punishment. These parents will be recruited from the mall campaign if they are interested and sign up for the workshop. The workshop will provide a pre- and post- test for parents to measure the workshops' effect on their knowledge and expected behavior change.
Co-Sponsoring organizations King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences. Students from the "students club" from the college of medicine participated with us as volunteers in the awareness campaign, and a student leader "Mohammed Haneef" worked as an organizer with the organizing team.
